Woody Plant Medium (WPM), developed by Lloyd and McCown (1981) for trees and woody plants. Lower salt concentrations and a modified nitrogen ratio prevent ammonium toxicity common in woody species at MS salt levels. The preferred starting medium for oaks, maples, birch, fruit trees, and other recalcitrant woody species.
